This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Your role

This position is for the kitchen of Youth Custody, Young Offenders Facility (YOF). YOF provides 24-hour services to youth aged serving pre trial detention or secure and open custody sentences under the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada.

This position is responsible for the provision of food services to youth and staff at the young offender's facility and catering Youth Justice functions. The position requires direct relations with potentially high risk, volatile clientele. This position ensures proper food handling, maintaining a sanitary environment, maintaining a secure environment, and all meals follow the Canada Food Guide.

Essential qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Journeyman Cook Certification (Red Seal)
  • Recent experience preparing meals for individuals and/or groups in a commercial or Institutional setting (such as hotel, restaurant, camp, catering or cafeteria setting (fast food restaurant not included)

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be considered.

Desired knowledge, skills and suitability
If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:

  • Knowledge of food preparation, serving and storage (Food safe)
  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable to change.

Conditions of employment
You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

  • Valid driver's licence
  • TB test
  • First Aid and CPR (Level C) within 60 days
  • Food safe
  • WHMIS within 60 days
  • RCMP security check for vulnerable sector
