THE ROLE:
As a software development manager, you will lead a team of talented computer scientists, software developers, and applied mathematicians in the design, development, and test of GPU libraries for high performance computing and machine learning workloads as part of the AMD Radeon Open Ecosystem (ROCm). The libraries cover linear algebra and solvers, FFTs, parallel algorithms, and communication frameworks/middleware.
THE PERSON:
To be successful in this role, you will be a hands-on leader with strong technical skills and demonstrated success shipping software in an Agile environment. You are passionate about hiring and developing your team as well as planning and managing key engineering initiatives. You have outstanding people leadership skills to lead, motivate, and guide world class engineers working in a fast-paced, matrixed, global environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the day-to-day activities of the team within an Agile/Scrum environmentWork closely with senior developers, architects, and stakeholders to develop a long-term strategy and feature backlogs for your libraries and translate that into achievable road maps and project plans in an Agile environmentEstablish a software development process that spans the entire software development life cycle and work with your engineers and key stakeholders from QA, DevOps, and program management to establish and continuously improve that processWork with senior developers and architects to develop the best technical designs and approachesManage, execute, and report progress against project plans and delivery commitmentsBuild and track metrics to proactively drive process improvementHire, mentor and develop software engineers
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Proven leadership skills and a history of delivering software projectsExtensive hands-on programming experience in C or C++Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle including requirements elicitation and analysis, scoping/estimation, coding standards, code reviews, version control, build processes, testing, and continuous integrationExperience managing the day-to-day activities of an engineering team using Agile methodsStrong written and verbal communication skillsOne or more of the following:Experience developing GPU-based parallel computing software using HIP, CUDA, or OpenCLA strong foundation in computational linear algebra and numerical methods and their applications in high performance computing and machine learningExperience implementing communication frameworks and libraries, including MPI, SHMEM, and/or UCX/libfabricsACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- B.Sc. or B.Eng. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent
- Advanced degrees, such as M.Sc., M.Eng., Ph.D. are preferred
