JOB SUMMARY
The Mechanical Engineer starts the engineering design, development, and problem-solving of equipment, manufacturing, and supporting processes.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops innovative and practical designs that meet requirements.
  • Begins applying engineering principles and process understanding.
  • Leads and organizes the integration/validation of assigned components/assemblies.
  • Introduces, defines, and develops new design ideas.
  • Oversees the modeling of components/assemblies for machine segments or modules, meeting specifications.
  • Specifies, selects, and integrates vendor components.
  • Starts and creates designs that are manufacturable, shows an understanding of operations and maintenance, and meets safety standards.
  • Introduces, presents, and engages in review of designs.
  • Completes assigned tasks within a set schedule.
  • Initiates and coordinates completion of design documentation with minimal errors, including part and assembly drawings, Bills of Materials, specification sheets, Modification kits, and project files.
  • Understands the roles of other functions and offers project support as needed.
  • Initiates and participates in team processes, contributing to team objectives.
  • Communicates openly with supervisor, project lead, and other relevant parties in a timely, effective manner.
  • Follows corporate policies and quality system procedures.
  • Executes job responsibilities safely and contributes to the safety and wellbeing of oneself and others.
  • Estimates engineering project resources, costs, and man-hours.
  • Trains less experienced staff in established methods and facilitates the transfer of technical knowledge.
  • Other assigned tasks.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in design and utilization of engineering tools.
  • Shows willingness and ability to enhance knowledge through ongoing education.
  • Familiar with:
    • Engineering codes and standards like OSHA/CCOHS, ANSI/CSA, and EC standards
    • Current industry/trade knowledge and commercial equipment availability
    • Engineering economics
    • Materials and fabrications
EXPERIENCE:
  • 4-year Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Machine Design experience beneficial, but not obligatory.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl and move within facility and/or customer's facilities.
  • Frequent lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
