Job OverviewAs a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse at Fraser Health, you will provide treatment and care management services for individuals with mental illness and concurrent disorders. Your role will involve collaborating with the care team to deliver person-centered and recovery-oriented care, ensuring the integration and continuity of services across the care continuum.
Responsibilities- Coordinate care for clients by collaborating with the care team.
- Provide direct nursing care to clients in compliance with standards of practice.
- Use a strengths-based approach and motivational techniques in working with clients.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and their support network.
- Offer treatment services including crisis intervention, individual counseling, and education.
- Participate in case conferences and act as a client advocate.
- Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to address client care issues.
- Monitor client conditions and facilitate access to healthcare services and programs.
- Document assessments, care plans, and other relevant information according to standards.
- Maintain a safe environment for clients, visitors, and employees.
- Identify learning needs and participate in professional development activities.
- Engage in research and quality improvement initiatives.
- Deliver educational sessions on Mental Health & Substance Use services.
- Facilitate group sessions and provide outreach nursing care as needed.
- Conduct client assessments, facilitate placement, and monitor client progress.
- Demonstrate responsibility as an authorized RN/RPN prescriber.
- Perform any other related duties as necessary.
Education, Training & Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing. Minimum of two years of recent related experience in treating individuals with mental health and/or concurrent disorders. Current registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse in British Columbia. Possession of a Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to conduct mental health and substance use assessments.
- Knowledge of mental illness, substance use treatment, and psychopharmacology.
- Skills in counseling, group facilitation, and effective communication.
- Understanding of relevant legislation, government policies, and procedures.
- Ability to deliver person-centered care with empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with the care team.
- Capacity to use evidence-based practice in decision-making.
- Proficiency in using relevant equipment and computer applications.
- Physical capability to fulfill the duties of the position.
