Aecon, a Canadian leader in infrastructure development, is seeking an Intermediate Accountant to join its team in Etobicoke, ON. As a key member of the Major Projects West Division, you will play a crucial role in supporting the division's financial operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with month-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, elimination entries, recurring entries, and accruals.
  • Reviewing monthly/quarterly deliverables from internal projects or business units.
  • Intercompany reconciliation, confirmation of intercompany balances, and coordination of transactions.
  • Preparing monthly management report deliverables.
  • Compiling cost recovery invoices to various entities.
  • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations for various entities.
  • Assisting with internal and external audit activities.
  • Assisting with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and/or financial statement notes.
  • Researching IFRS as needed to ensure established Aecon policies and procedures are compliant with IFRS.
  • Assisting with annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes as needed.
  • Liaising with other Aecon departments as required.
  • Maintaining respect, effective communication, and relationships with management and staff of all levels.
  • Account analysis and preparation of working papers and schedules.

Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting.
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience.
  • CPA designation or working towards CPA Designation.
  • Experience in construction or related industry is preferred.
  • Experience with SAP, BPC, and Business Objects is valued.
  • Progressive experience that indicates strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Ability to influence without specific authority.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong ability to think creatively, challenge the status quo, deal with ambiguity, and interact with a wide variety of personalities.
  • History of strong personal performance and value add to the business.
  • Demonstrated success working with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Strong financial acumen and relevant financial skills, including quantitative problem solving.
  • Broad business knowledge, end-to-end thinking, and organizational awareness.
