Aecon is seeking an Electrician to join their team in Alberta, Canada.

The Electrician will be responsible for providing support and in-depth knowledge in the field regarding all matters of construction electrical matters to ensure Aecon Construction Solutions Inc. achieves their general and specific project requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a Certified Journeyperson Ticket or be an Indentured Apprentice, with 2-3 years' experience in high voltage, lockout tagout, and circuit isolation. They will also have experience reading and interpreting electronic schematics, drawings, and aligning to provincial standards.

The Electrician will work on various projects across Alberta, including industrial and maintenance projects. They will be responsible for installing cable tray and conduit, terminating cable, and laying out circuits. They will also be responsible for troubleshooting and isolating faults in electrical and electronic systems.

The Electrician will work in a fast-paced environment, with repetitive movement and the ability to perform in all weather conditions. They will be required to lift and work with materials weighing up to 25kg.

The Electrician will be paid an hourly rate of $50.00, with shift rotation to change per project requirements. They will also receive 10 hours per day, with overtime paid at 1.5 times the employee straight time hourly rate after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installing cable tray and conduit and terminating cable
  • Locating and installing equipment, panels, sensors, and other control components and devices
  • Fabricating control panels, wiring check-out
  • Laying out circuits, setting up breaker panels and junction boxes, and installing light fixtures and other electrical equipment
  • Providing input relating to the resolution of any design or installation issue
  • Ensuring all electrical installations follow applicable regulations and trade practices
  • Installing, altering, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of electrical equipment for safe, efficient, and environmentally sound operation
  • Pulling wire through conduits and cables through tray systems
  • Reading and interpreting drawings, circuit diagrams, and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations
  • Splicing, joining, and connecting wire to fixtures and components to form circuits
  • Installing brackets and hangers to support electrical equipment
  • Troubleshooting and isolating faults in electrical and electronic systems and removing and replacing faulty components
  • Installing, replacing, and repairing lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment, such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels
  • Testing continuity of circuits using test equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of system, and if need be replacing or repairing following proper installation guidelines

Requirements:

  • Certified Journeyperson Ticket or Indentured in Apprenticeship Program
  • 2-3 years' experience in high voltage, lockout tagout, and circuit isolation
  • 2-3 years' experience reading and interpreting electronic schematics, drawings, and aligning to provincial standards
  • 2-3 years' experience working with high voltage power equipment
  • 2-3 years' experience commissioning and decommissioning electrical systems
  • Mechanical ability, strength, and manual dexterity
  • Ability to work at various heights
  • Ability to stand, crouch, and kneel for long periods of time
  • Ability to solve math problems quickly and accurately
  • Ability to get along well with others on a work team
  • Must be willing to work in remote job locations and at various heights
  • Must have a strong understanding of safety procedures and policies on an industrial job site
  • Proficient communication and reading skills
  • Ability to do very precise work
  • Ability to distinguish colors to work with color-coded wiring

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $50.00 hourly rate
  • Shift rotation to change per project requirements
  • 10 hours per day – hours flexible to change
  • Overtime paid at 1.5 times the employee straight time hourly rate after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week
  • 6% vacation and 4% statutory holiday pay
