Job Summary

The Senior Lead, Indigenous and Community Relations is a key role in building and maintaining meaningful relationships with the Tahltan Nation and other Indigenous Peoples and Communities of Interest (COIs). This position requires a strong understanding of community engagement and relations, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategies for engaging with Indigenous Peoples and COIs, including community outreach and education.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the Tahltan Nation and other Indigenous Peoples and COIs.
  • Collaborate with the Project team to develop and implement community engagement plans, including public outreach and education.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Project team on Indigenous Peoples and COI engagement, including cultural awareness and sensitivity training.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local communities, including hosting community events and providing information on the Project.
  • Collaborate with the Project team to develop and implement social and environmental programs, including community investment and benefits management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the Tahltan Nation and other Indigenous Peoples and COIs.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Project team on Indigenous Peoples and COI engagement, including cultural awareness and sensitivity training.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience, including direct hands-on experience working in communities and with Indigenous Peoples.
  • University or post-secondary degree preferred, but not required for candidates with strong relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present to a variety of audiences and develop and implement communication strategies.
  • Awareness of best practice and current issues in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in Canada, particularly regarding Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) of Indigenous People, sustainability, and social responsibility.
  • High degree of motivation, strategic planning, and self-starting capabilities.
