The Role

The Specialist, Marketing supports consumer marketing partnerships and executes Travel Alberta's social media marketing strategy for the Destination Promotion team. The Specialist, Marketing monitors and maintains our brand presence on our priority social accounts. They engage and build relationships with our followers, industry partners and future travellers, aligning with Travel Alberta's organic social strategy and business objectives. Travel Alberta's core consumer social media channels include Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and other social channels as required.

The Specialist also recommends and manages the budgets for social, including execution, boosting organic social content and social content creation. This role will also support and execute other marketing initiatives such as paid media campaigns, earned media, influencer activations, etc.

Fostering strong relationships with partners, agencies, and team members is critical in this Specialist role along with knowledge sharing. The Specialist will lead and support the coordination of organizational tasks and possesses expertise and leadership in social media. The Specialist will also lead and support the team with internal and external communications, timelines, and project leadership, along with a variety of other duties that align with Travel Alberta's strategy.

What You Will Need

  • A degree or diploma in tourism, marketing, communications or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience managing social media advertising in a corporate setting, including the use of Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube. This includes experience in community management for a brand and organic social boosting.

  • You are detail-oriented and have strong writing and communication skills with the ability to convey messages clearly, concisely, and effectively to a wide range of audiences.
  • You stay organized amidst competing priorities and can efficiently coordinate the logistics for influencer trips and travel itineraries.
  • You have excellent presentation skills and experience in presenting plans, strategies, and results to internal and external partners.
  • You build productive and positive working relationships quickly with both internal colleagues and external stakeholders – it simply comes naturally to you no matter the stakeholder ranging from media, Destination Organizations (DOs), agencies, and tourism industry partners.
  • You have strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and partners simultaneously and can adapt to changing environments.
  • You're a team player first and naturally include others in sharing information and seeking input.
  • You're a strategic thinker with the ability to analyze market trends and insights and can identify storytelling opportunities that align with Travel Alberta's organizational goals.
  • You have high emotional intelligence with the ability to understand and empathize with different perspectives, handle sensitive situations diplomatically and can navigate crises and conflicts effectively.
  • You're passionate about Alberta as a travel destination and ideally have experience working in the tourism industry.

Accountabilities & Deliverables

Organic Social Media Planning & Execution

  • Develops and manages the execution of Travel Alberta's consumer social media strategy to meet annual benchmarks.
  • Manages social reporting and evaluates areas of opportunity and possible optimizations.
  • Has the autonomy to manage, lead, monitor, and respond to community postings on behalf of Travel Alberta on all consumer-facing social channels.
  • Works collaboratively with Stakeholder Engagement Team and other relevant Travel Alberta teams on stakeholder, issues, and reputational management.
  • Manages and works closely with agency partners and Destination Organization partners on alignment opportunities with campaigns, content, social calendar and social media management.
  • Consults and collaborates with Content team on social content needs; creates content according to brand standards and adapts content for our social platforms. Supports content studio distribution plans.
  • Manages social content briefs submitted to Travel Alberta's creator community and organic social content budget.
  • Manages, executes and reports on boosted social strategy, campaigns and budget.
  • Manges social calendar and drafts social posts.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with other Travel Alberta teams and Alberta tourism industry partners to ensure a seamless and timely response to traveler inquiries.
  • Manages social processes for social alignment with multiple internal teams.

Marketing Initiative Support & Execution

  • Support Travel Alberta marketing initiatives for execution and reporting. Projects include paid media campaigns, influencer, earned media, etc.
  • Monitors and reports on performance, trends, and insights from marketing initiatives to the Travel Alberta Team and industry partners.
  • Provides alignment opportunities with various Travel Alberta internal teams for supported marketing initiatives.

Relationship Building and Collaboration

  • Manages relationship with social agency for strategy needs, community management and reporting needs.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with industry and tourism partners including Destination Organizations, agencies, vendors, Destination Canada, and other partners as identified.
  • Shares performance for social media, social boosting and marketing initiatives with internal teams and stakeholder partners.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with partners, agencies and other specialists to ensure alignment and evaluate opportunities for further collaboration.
  • Work cross-functionally with team embers to ensure integration and leverage of all media programs and campaigns as related to Travel Alberta's brand strategy and marketing communications platforms.
  • The Specialist will also be seen as the knowledge matter expert to expand partner learning in the social space by highlighting new platforms, tactics or product opportunities, communicating best practices and presenting additional optimization opportunities internally and with stakeholder partners.
