This community of 18,000 residents has a vibrant, small village character and includes the Tsawout and Tsartlip First Nations; and it is central to all amenities of the Greater Victoria area.

JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager, the Communications & Engagement Specialist for the climate portfolio is a strategic communications leader.

The incumbent facilitates communications, education, and community engagement to champion climate adaptation, mitigation and preparedness.

The Communications and Engagement Specialist will work with District departments and community members to help to increase active transportation, promote climate action programs and prepare the community for extreme-weather events.

The individual will bring their enthusiasm for climate action along with creative ideas to enable the community to make positive changes.

The ideal candidate will possess an Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, behavioural science, journalism, urban planning, transportation or environmental studies) and five (5 years) related experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

This role may be occasionally required to work outside of regular work hours to attend and support public engagement events.

Hours of work may be between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm or on weekends as required.

This role is able to participate in the District's Flexible Workplace Policy.
