The Central Life Reserving (CLR) Global Oversight team is responsible for the governance and reporting of Munich Re's global Life and Health (LH) Reinsurance portfolio. CLR also manages all operations and reporting tools related to the centralized part of Group and Local IFRS17 reporting.

CLR is looking for an Actuary in their Toronto Hub to support with quarterly valuation activities, as well as exciting cross-functional initiatives around the design and implementation of group-wide consistent reserving processes and reporting tools.

This unique role offers global exposure and an opportunity to develop deep business and technical understanding of our LH Reinsurance portfolio. You will report into the Head of Section, CLR and manage various stakeholders to operate effectively across our global reinsurance segment. The position offered will depend on your profile, including relevant technical and managerial experience.

Your Job:
  • Provide technical and actuarial support within a diverse team collaborating across geographies as well as central and local functions
  • Orchestrate the decentralized business unit deliveries and central data processing for the IFRS17 quarter-end valuation, including quality assurance, for Group and Local reporting
  • Develop a deep understanding of our standardized input data model, calculation approaches and output validation tools, ensuring consistency with methodological guidance
  • Facilitate development and maintenance of the reference calculators and reporting tools used within CLR as well as across the decentralized valuation units to enable consistent analysis and results validation
  • Support results analysis and management presentations through evaluation of implemented functionality, as well as quality of financial figures by comparison against reference tools
  • Automate and document end-to-end processes and controls needed to enable valuation closings, results analysis and management reporting under IFRS17
  • Enhance existing and develop new practices for quality assurance, results analysis, defects management, feedback loops, late adjustments, etc. for improved reliability of central systems
  • Proactively identify opportunities for improved efficiency, including the enhancement of existing reporting tools and development of new tools where necessary
Your Profile:
  • University Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • FSA/near FSA preferred
  • Prior experience in an actuarial role (e.g. in Valuation, Pricing, Risk Management) and in related project work
  • Strong software skills and technical proficiency with Excel/VBA, SQL, PowerBI, Python, etc.
  • Nice to have foundational knowledge of financial accounting and reporting standards (i.e. IFRS17/9, Solvency II)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across different departments and locations
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, combined with ability to present complex matters in a simple way
  • Highly organized and independent with strong time management skills
  • Flexibility to travel to Munich Head Office
