Key job responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of key system features
  • Will work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype technology and evaluate technical feasibility.
  • Will work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software against aggressive schedules.
  • Will establish architectural principles, select design patterns and then mentor team members on their appropriate application
A day in the life

As a Software Development Engineer, you will be focused on the design, implementation, and delivery of software in ambiguous and complex problem spaces.

You will be working with an assorted set of stakeholders across organization such as product, program management, and UX teams and will influence the technology decisions that will drive future products and features that directly affect our growth in this critical space.

About the team

Alexa Hybrid Engine vision is to make Alexa faster, more reliable, provide for better privacy, and enable unique experiences, only possible with local processing.

Our technology stack extends from audio input through utterance and intent processing, skill invocation and response processing, text-to-speech, model building and delivery, and engine workflow configurations.

We collaborate to reuse technology where available, build where we see a gap, and provide engineering and scientific innovation where opportunity exists.

We measure our success based on adoption and usage of the platform, tools and experiences we enable.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Toronto, ON, CAN
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of noninternship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
