Job Title: Mining Engineering Co-Op Student (8-month term)
Reporting directly to the Senior Mining Engineer, the Mine Engineering Co-Op Student is responsible for assisting Skeena's Technical Services team by actively contributing to day-to-day operations on a remote site while collaborating closely with the Operations and Project Execution teams during the first five months of the term (May - September) and supporting with strategic technical guidance to the project from an office setting during the last three months of the term (October - December).
This role gives the student great exposure to the construction phase of a fast paced, challenging, and diverse mining environment, and provides a wonderful opportunity to develop your skills while adding value to the organization. This co-op opportunity provides a unique chance to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, enhancing your skills and fostering professional growth.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Support surface mining and construction activities by providing technical support to the Operations and Execution teams.Assist engineers with various scopes including drill-and-blast design, short range mine planning, data analysis and monitoring, material balance activities, drawings preparation and review, and preparation of other technical deliverables.Perform productivity simulations and cycle-time studies advising engineering of forecasted mining rates.Create and maintain accurate daily production reports and prepare and present weekly production reports.Identify and communicate trends with focus on identifying improvement opportunities in current processes.Load, review and analyze drill hole data and assist in drill hole database management.Participate in the drill and blast program, supplying planned drill hole areas and patterns to operations, logging drill hole data and reporting drill and blast progress.Assist with assay laboratory experiments, data collection, analysis and reporting.Support field QA/QC work, field surveying, and geological mapping.Prepare program and production reports for the end of season reporting on construction and mining activities over the season.Participate in year-end data gathering, development and report preparation.

Education / Qualifications
Active enrolment in an accredited undergraduate program - Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Geology/Earth Sciences.Available for 8-month work term starting May 2024.Previous Co-Op experience working in a mining environment preferred.
Experience/Skills
Familiarity with surface mining operations or projectsStrong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)Any experience with CAD/GIS software will be considered an assetFamiliarity working with or around heavy mobile equipment is considered an assetProven organization, planning, prioritization, and time management skillsStrong written and verbal communication skillsEffective team player who can jump in wherever is neededSelf-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with othersAbility to work independently as well as with othersAbility to adapt to new outdoor situations and work in varied terrain
Work Location & Conditions
This Co-Op opportunity will begin in May 2024 and run for a period of 8 months.
This position will be a mixture of both site-based and office-based employment. The first 5 months of the Co-op will be site based at Eskay Creek and the last 3 months will be based in Skeena's Vancouver office.
The site site-based camp role at Eskay Creek Mine site will involve working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation. The office-based role will be based in Skeena's Corporate office located in Vancouver, British Columbia on a Monday to Friday schedule.
The job is in a fast-paced, and at times stressful working environment. Candidates will be expected to manage multiple competing priorities in a safe and efficient manner.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons while onsite including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
Compensation Range: $25 to $35 p/hr.
The compensation range provided is a guideline and an offer for this position would be based on the candidate's level of experience and qualifications.
