The Cook is responsible to prepare and serve nutritious meals as outlined in menus in accordance with applicable food service and safety regulations.

  • Minimum Secondary School Diploma.
  • Diploma/education in food services is an asset.
  • Safe Food Handling certification is required.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum two years' experience in residential cooking.
  • Good knowledge of nutrition.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment when making decisions.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; and to deal with people in a pleasant, professional, and responsible manner.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of The Salvation Army London Centre of
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
