Purpose of Role

This role will be primarily focused on supporting the Great Bear project which is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross' comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.

The purpose of the role is to provide project management, technical coordination, and technical analysis as part of the Great Bear Resources (GBR) engineering team for both the Advanced Exploration decline project (starting in mid-to-late-2024) as well as the main Great Bear project (FS starting mid This role involves the implementation of corporate policies, standards and specifications related to the GBR project with respect to studies, construction, and commissioning. This role will contribute to the execution of the strategy for the engineering team, ensuring alignment with the project's overall strategy, ensuring quality standards are upheld in the various fields of specialization. This role will also participate in medium to long-term business and / or project planning by providing technical and multi-disciplinary expertise.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinate key project engineering and management functions to ensure high levels of collaboration with cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams (internally and externally)
  • Review project documents (policies, standards, specifications, drawings, data sheets, etc.) related to equipment and systems to assure they meet project objectives.
  • Interface with internal discipline leads (mechanical, civil/structural and electrical).
  • Under the guidance of the GBR Engineering Managers, establish project plans and milestones, analyze project risks, develop budgets and distribute work assignments to discipline leads.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of engineering workflows to enhance current engineering team practices and performance.
  • Interface and coordinate with site operations teams.
  • Assist commercial teams with technical support in procurement.
  • Contribute and in some instances lead the coordination of planning and executing construction and commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to the process of preparing corporate documents (policies, standards, specifications) related to multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare business cases regarding projects and initiatives, analyze information and prepare technical documents to support decision making; present recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirementse
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Formal professional designation in mechanical engineering either in Ontario or with a pathway to attain licensing in Ontario.
  • 10+ years of related work experience.
  • Design and project execution (field experience) preferred. Operational experience is an asset.
  • Good understanding of mining and processing equipment. Experience with sizing, selection, engineering, construction and commissioning of relevant mechanical systems.
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary engineering aspects of projects of varying scope and complexity from planning to commissioning stages.
  • Experience with project management of medium to large-sized projects. This includes development and management of schedules, budgets, deliverables as well as co-ordination with engineering consultants, vendors, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of large multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Canadian project experience.
