Temporary part-time Acrobatics Instructor position available in the Recreation Services Department of the Community Services Commission. The City of Markham is seeking a qualified instructor to lead basic level Acrobatic dance programs for participants from children to adults.

**Job Description:**
The Acrobatics Instructor will plan, organize, instruct and lead basic level Acrobatic dance programs for participants from children to adults. The instructor will ensure a positive and safe environment for participants and peers.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Facilitate, lead and supervise the program.
- Organize and write lesson plans, developing them specific to the abilities of each group.
- Prepare and organize program equipment and supplies, maintaining an inventory and reporting any items needing replacement.
- Keep attendance records and check with participants who have extended absences.
- Ensure all participant emergency and medical information is obtained through the completion of a personal data form.
- Ensure all program participants are aware of upcoming events, program changes or cancellations.
- Meet with parents (if needed) prior to or after class time.
- Directly guide volunteers and PT Program Assistants as required.
- Advises Program Coordinator/Recreation Supervisor of any customer service issues, complaints or inquiries.
- Ensure safety at all times, enforcing safety regulations as set out by the City of Markham sports, fitness, arts and leisure programs policies and procedures.
- Ensure the site, equipment and supplies are appropriate to the activity and environment to reduce and minimize risk to other staff and participants.
- Children between the ages of 6 – 12 years must use the buddy system when going to the washroom.
- Unlocks and locks-up the facility/program location as required.
**Qualifications/Requirements:**
- Attending or partial completion of high school education.
- Must have experience instructing Acrobatics.
- Must have experience with children.
- Minimum age of 16 years old at the start of employment.
- Technical or practical training in circus skills, acrobatics techniques, hand balancing and juggling.
- Minimum 2 years of combined previous experience teaching related programs.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification.
- High Five Certificate and adherence to the principles of Healthy Child Development.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills, leadership skills, customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons, parents and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Ability to teach a basic level (not competition level) in a formal discipline.
