Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals for residents and staff in a large-scale commercial or institutional operation. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals for residents and staff in accordance with written and oral instructions.
  • Act as a lead worker in preparing, cooking, and serving meals.
  • Ensure that all meals are prepared in accordance with special diets and nutritional requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure efficient and effective meal preparation and service.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland & Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
  • Completion of a Commercial Cooking course approved by Central Health.
  • Demonstrated experience as a general duty cook in a large-scale commercial or institutional operation.
  • Consistent demonstration of NL Health Services values: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence (ICARE).
  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
  • A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Working Conditions:

This role requires regular standing, walking, and lifting of up to 25 pounds. The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to adapt to changing circumstances.
