Job Summary

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing targeted marketing and communications strategies, maintaining social media channels and executing and reporting digital marketing activities for UBC's Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD) in the Faculty of Medicine.

UBC CPD is an integral part of the medical education continuum of health professionals in the Faculty of Medicine. UBC CPD creates transformative and customized continuing professional development experiences for health care professionals and communities of practice. We influence meaningful change in the health-care system through research, education, and community engagement, facilitating translation to those involved in caring for the public.

This role identifies and generates initiatives in support of the marketing and communication strategy of each UBC CPD portfolio in the promotion of learning activities as well as contributes to the overarching UBC CPD marketing and communications strategy and brand.
A collaborative position, the coordinator will work closely across the team and use strong project management skills to manage shifting priorities and deadlines.

Organizational Status
Reports to the Senior Manager, Administration and Communications and works closely with the marketing and communications team to develop campaigns. The coordinator will also liaise with program and portfolio managers, suppliers and contractors as required.

Work Performed

The marketing and communications coordinator will engage new and existing audiences by:

Coordinating marketing and communications work flow from content creation, approval, posting and reporting

  • Creates and implements content marketing and social media strategies to generate awareness and build engagement
  • Plans and implements the UBC CPD social media calendar
  • Engages core audiences on major social media and digital platforms
  • Develops visual assets for in accordance to visual identity guidelines across social media channels
  • Monitors engagement across social media platforms

Developing and sending email through content creation, list management and templates

  • Edits content and facilitates the approval process for production
  • Designs HTML content using email best-practices and established templates
  • Manages email lists in accordance with legislative and privacy requirements
  • Reports on email success criteria for continuous improvement

Developing web content to promote UBC CPD learning activities and elevate UBC CPD brand

  • Coordinates content from across the division's portfolio areas
  • Writes and edits new and existing content to maintain timely, consistent and relevant material on all digital channels
  • Ensures content is of high quality and consistent with the UBC CPD brand and voice
  • Uses analytics to report on campaign metrics

Consequence of Error/Judgement
This position has responsibilities to plan and implement content marketing and communications strategies for UBC CPD that enhance brand and reputation. The position requires the ability to maintain accuracy with strong attention to detail and to exercise good judgement. Errors in judgment will reflect negatively on the division and on the public image of UBC.

Supervision Received
Works independently under the general direction of the Senior Manager, Digital Marketing, and works closely with UBC CPD senior managers and program managers to develop and approve content.

Supervision Given
Supervises a Marketing Associate in the development of content and may occasionally oversee the work of students or temporary staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Diploma in Marketing. Minimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in all aspects of social media, coordinating multiple web projects, ideally in a complex organizational environment
  • Experience with copy writing, marketing and promotions
  • Knowledge of branding and working within a graphic identity system
  • Working knowledge of Canadian Press (CP) Style
  • Effective oral, interpersonal, presentation, and public relations skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to impart and interpret technical information with audiences of mixed levels of ability
  • Capacity for creativity and research; ability to exercise initiative, resourcefulness, and judgment
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Awareness and understanding of the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion and its application in all marketing and communication activities
