About the RoleThe CMM Programmer performs CMM programming, fixture calibration, part layouts and system support for QA and other departments as required.
Your Responsibilities- Program CMM to measure components, summarize and report data.
- Compare recorded measurements to blueprint dimensions and tolerances and escalate any discrepancies.
- Perform studies on parts and assemblies using the CMM.
- Blues and scribe parts, generate CAD from scan data, provide tooling sketches for fixtures and perform part layouts.
- Program CMM to calibrate fixtures and maintain fixture calibration database.
- Certify inspection equipment and all engineering changes. Update fixture database and inspection program.
- Create reports and work with Engineering for parts improvement.
- Perform correlation studies for Perceptron.
- Work with multiple departments for measurement of parts to meet customer requirements.
- Participate in PPAP team and related activities (PSO etc.) for assigned elements, including laboratory and dimensional related requirement.
- Maintain document control for control cards and control limits for variable readings based on process capability for assembly and component KCC.
- Champion assigned dimensional projects and studies.
- Review data, verify and complete reports and communicate to customer contact via e-mail, uploads in internet applications, etc.
- Perform internal calibration of assigned gages and complete record in Gage tracking system, including entering new item, documenting calibration procedure etc.
- Provide support to all departments for quality or dimensionally related issues, including opening CR in the system, participate in containment when needed.
- Take initiative to follow through on completion of tasks/projects.
- Back-up coverage for Quality Inspector when needed by department.
- Back-up coverage for weld penetration testing when needed by department.
- Maintain Lab scope up to date.
- Participate in PFMEA, CP, Control Card &Work Guidance development.
- Maintain assigned document control for PFMEA, CP, Control Card and Work Guidance and other documents controlled by QA department.
- Maintain assigned advanced and master part number list and follow-up on assigned updates 9fixtures, cards, instructions) for implementation of engineering changes up to on time submission of PPAP documentation to customer.
- Maintain an open issues list and meet with leadership to assess status.
- Participate in employee suggestion program and 5S initiatives.
- Sustain 5S in assigned area within department.
- Perform part layout using a height gauge when required.
- Other duties as required.
- Post-secondary education or equivalent.
- Strong technical background and experience in Metrology protocols, measuring equipment, GD&T, SPC, GR&R, fixtures and CAD.
- Minimum 5 years CMM programming and operating experience preferred.
- Strong background and experience in Automotive Manufacturing and Quality Assurance.
- Ability to inspect and measure parts for conformance using precision instruments (i.e. CMM, Optical Comparator, Height Gauge, Micrometers, Thread Gauges, Fixtures, Microscopes, etc.).
- Experience with QS/IATF Quality systems and manufacturing processes.
- Solid understanding of applicable IATF16949 quality system requirements, including APQP, FMEA, PPAP manual, and auditing procedures.
- Up to date knowledge of applicable internal procedures and work instructions including referenced customer specific requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of operating and programming all CMMs types and other laboratory and measuring equipment (PCDMIS Software).
- Advanced knowledge of MSA AIAG manuals to champion control and improvement of existing processes for PPAP submission.
- Knowledge of computer applications (MS Office, Auto CAD) including control of change, document control, backup control.
- Knowledge of print reading of drawings with tolerances is preferred.
- Knowledge of Basic Dimensional Measurement Tools is required.
- Must possess good mathematical skills. Experience in geometry and trigonometry an asset.
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
