What you'll do:
- Collect blood and other specimens, label with relevant information, and assist with fine needle aspirations.
- Prepare specimens for analysis by centrifuging, aliquoting, and distributing by priority.
- Perform clerical duties, including computer data entry, communicating test results, and handling inquiries.
- Clean, operate, and maintain equipment, including temperature checks on fridges and incubators.
- Prepare reagents, media, and specimen collection material, and distribute as required.
- Load specimens for analysis on barcode-enhanced automated and semi-automated equipment.
- Perform laboratory tests, including urine dipsticks and glucose tests, and plate microbiology specimens.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, and assist with clerical functions, including inventory management.
- Schedule and book appointments, and enter and verify patient registration information.
- Provide assistance with ECG testing, and perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring:
- Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, and one year's recent, related experience.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deal with others effectively and physically perform duties.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to operate related equipment and keyboard at 25 w.p.m.
- Commitment to upholding reconciliation and addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism.
