The Township of Langley is seeking up to four full-time Firefighters to join the Protective Services – Fire Division, with additional top-qualified candidates placed on an eligibility list for 12 months.
Firefighters work as part of a team with career and paid-call firefighters, management, and other staff to ensure efficient and effective service. Responsibilities include:
- Firefighting
- Maintenance
- Education
- Training
- Inspection duties
Firefighters must be capable of making decisions and working independently until a fire officer arrives on the scene. The job requires prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions.
Required Qualifications:
- Good physical condition and suitability for the position of firefighter
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- No criminal or summary offence convictions related to the role of a firefighter
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada
- Fluency in English (written and verbal)
The Fire Department has a residency requirement. Boundaries include the western border of West Vancouver, metro Vancouver municipalities to the north, the U.S. border to the south, and the eastern borders of Mission and Chilliwack.
Required Certifications and Licenses:
- Diploma, Certificate, or Transcripts demonstrating a minimum of Grade 12 graduation, GED completion, or equivalent
- NFPA 1001 Level II certification with appropriate IFSAC/ProBoard Seals
- NFPA 472 Operations certification with appropriate IFSAC/ProBoard Seals
- Current recognized first aid certificate relevant to a firefighter and CPR Level C
- Valid BC Class 3 or Class 1 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement
Desirable Training and Experience:
- Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) completed within the last 6 months
- Completion of fire service-related courses
- Participation in the delivery of Public Fire and Life Safety Education Programs
- Demonstrated knowledge of various applicable codes and standards
- Work/life skills related to firefighting
