As a Flight Dynamics Analyst at Telesat Canada, you will be part of a small team of dedicated professionals responsible for performing satellite stationkeeping, orbit determination, and momentum control in support of Telesat and its customer satellite operations programs.
Main Responsibilities:- Plan and Execute Satellite Maneuvers: Develop and implement automated tools for maneuver upload, execution, and monitoring, and analyze related topics to ensure optimal fuel usage and stationkeeping requirements.
- Orbit Determination and Maneuver Reconstruction: Monitor and maintain orbit determination and maneuver reconstruction processes to ensure accurate tracking and prediction of satellite orbits.
- Fuel Management and Performance Monitoring: Monitor fuel usage and maneuver performance to optimize satellite operations and minimize fuel consumption.
- Relocation Campaigns: Plan and monitor relocation campaigns to move satellites from one station longitude to another, ensuring seamless transition and minimal disruption to satellite operations.
- Software Development and Maintenance: Develop software procedures for use by the Satellite Control Centre for maneuver upload, execution, and monitoring, as well as other orbit, attitude, and momentum control-related tasks.
- Execution and Oversight: Oversee the execution of satellite maneuvers, ensuring success and minimizing the risk of errors or disruptions.
- Participation in Transfer Orbit Service Programs: Participate in Transfer Orbit Service (TOS) programs as required, performing orbit determination and generating tracking predicts to ensure accurate satellite tracking and prediction.
- Reporting and Presentations: Prepare and present reports for Telesat and its customers, providing detailed analysis and recommendations for satellite operations and performance improvement.
- Strategic Planning and Collaboration: Develop stationkeeping strategies and review plans collaboratively with the team to ensure optimal satellite operations and performance.
- Leadership and Technical Guidance: May lead development teams in the management of Flight Dynamics-related preparations for new satellite programs or initiatives, providing technical guidance and oversight to ensure successful project execution.
- Participation in Development Projects: Participate in development projects in collaboration with Satellite Engineers and Systems Software to implement timely and effective procedures for new programs or in response to satellite anomalies.
- Technical Support and Guidance: Provide technical guidance to other analysts, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration within the team.
- Education: Masters or Bachelor degree in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or the equivalent.
- Experience: Strong background in statistics, calculus, orbital mechanics, and computer programming (shell and Python scripting is preferred).
- Skills: Experience in satellite stationkeeping planning, software development, and Linux systems administration and configuration management would be an asset.
- Personal Qualities: Strong technical, presentation, interpersonal, written, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
