Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada BC Women's Hospital Full time

Breast Health Radiologist
BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre,
Regular position FTE negotiable (between 0.4 to 0.8)
Vancouver, BC

BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women's health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women's is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with over 7,000 births a year, and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in the Lower Mainland and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system.

As an academic health Centre BCW's mandate includes providing strong leadership in research and the education and professional development of medical professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve.

The Breast Health Program, focuses exclusively on breast imaging and procedures. We perform screening mammography, diagnostic mammography including tomosynthesis and breast ultrasound. We are the second site in British Columbia to offer contrast enhanced mammography. We currently perform stereotactic, tomosynthesis and ultrasound biopsies. The program aims to be the first site in British Columbia to offer contrast enhanced biopsy. We are actively developing our breast MRI program and aim to start in the fall of 2024 with MRI guided biopsy capability. Our goal is to complete mammography and ultrasound at the first diagnostic visit, allowing women to leave the department knowing the next step in their breast care journey.

Reporting to the Medical Lead, Breast Health Program, this role will assume clinical responsibility, participate in resident education as well as the opportunity for research in Breast Health at BC Women's Hospital. In this position, you will apply best practice standards to provide diagnostic breast imaging services for women referred to the program including complex case management.

Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and procedural skills as well as a passion for advancing breast imaging.

Breast Health program, BCW Has to Offer you

  • The opportunity to join our experienced team focused on quality patient centered care
  • The chance to contribute to the growth of the program and shape the future of breast imaging in British Columbia
  • Participation in breast MRI program development
  • An invitation to participate in the BC Cancer Breast Screening program, if eligible

Testimonial: The reasons I love working at BCWH are numerous. Not only is the leadership engaged but the breast health team is tightly knit and dedicated to providing the best patient care. We are expanding our program and aim to implement novel technology such as contrast enhanced mammography and biopsy. Call is not a requirement allowing me more time to spend enjoying my family and what Vancouver has to offer.

Qualifications

Candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in the Province of British Columbia, have or be eligible for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Radiology. Recognized fellowship training breast imaging is highly desirable. Applicants with clinical expertise in breast imaging on the basis of previous experience will also be considered. Faculty rank is dependent upon qualifications and will be recommended by the Department of Radiology of the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Medicine.

The successful candidate will also be committed to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per the Truth & Reconciliation Commission and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act
