JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Software Engineering.

Reporting to the Director, IT Services, the SM, Software Engineering is accountable for driving the overall software development lifecycle including working across functional teams to transform requirements into features, managing development teams and processes, and conducting software testing and maintenance. Specific project areas of focus includes translating user requirements into technical specifications, writing code and managing the preparation of design specifications. Supports system design, provides advice on security requirements and debugs business systems and service applications. Applies deep knowledge of algorithms, data structures and programming languages to develop high quality technology applications and services - including tools, standards, and relevant software platforms based on business requirements.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Translates user needs into technical specifications by understanding, conceptualizing, and facilitating technical requirements from the user.​ Analyzes, develops, tests, and implements new software programs, and documentation of entire software development life cycle execution. Drives the execution of backend, business, and frontend layers using a DevOps philosophy Promotes the use and adherence to clean code principles. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and fault rectification of system and core software components​. Ensures that code/configurations adhere to the security, logging, error handling, and performance standards and non-functional requirements.​ Evaluate new technologies to fit with the program/system/eco-system and the associated upstream and downstream impacts on process, data, and risk. Follows release management processes and standards and applies version controls. ​ Assists in interpreting and documentation of client requirements.​ Partners with the Project Management Office to manage and prioritize resources assigned to Project work, define support model and transition plan to sustainment. Builds interdependent teams that collaborate across functional and operating groups to create the highest value for all stakeholders. Attracts, retains, and enables the career development of talent. Collaborates with third-party vendors, architects and other internal teams to deliver the best outcome for the business. Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine. Implements changes in response to shifting trends. Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
