The City of Markham is seeking a highly skilled Urban Design Specialist to join its Planning and Urban Design Department. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for providing expert urban design advice and guidance on built form, streetscape, site planning, and landscape architecture for various development applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent the Urban Design group in reviewing and processing development applications
  • Contribute to innovative design solutions for sustainable communities
  • Manage special studies and projects related to Planning and Urban Design
  • Develop initiatives to promote the City's Urban Design agenda and champion sustainability objectives
  • Work with the latest technologies to maintain development applications and project work
  • Promote tree conservation and preservation through applicable policies and regulations

Requirements:

  • University degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Planning and Urban Design
  • Membership in OALA, OPPI, OAA, or related professional organization an asset
  • Strong understanding of design and construction details and specifications
  • Knowledge of municipal approval processes and associated urban design requirements
  • Proficient in design, graphics, and computer skills
  • Excellent analytical, report writing, and presentation skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
