GFL is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor, Processing Facilities to join our Production team.

Our continued growth and development has created an opening for a Operations Supervisor, Processing Facility in a GFL Hamilton facility.

As a part of our team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day High Temperature Metal Recovery (HTMR) operation, ensuring that productivity is achieved while adhering to product quality requirements and that all activities are conducted within the guidelines of the Collective Agreement, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and regulations for industrial and environmental, legal, and other requirements.

Provide leadership and ensure communication within a team environment to achieve the production objectives.
Report on the team's shift activities, quality control, maintenance, safety and production activities.

Key Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Operations Supervisor, Processing Facility is responsible for managing production Shift Supervisors, Quality Technician, Maintenance Technician, safety oversight & disciplinary action; housekeeping; operational control policies; productivity, quality of work & utilization audits; environmental compliance monitoring; adhering to Collective Agreement terms.

Responsible for the daily operations.

Responsible for the operation and functionality of all processes and equipment, including safety systems, and to be capable of ensuring adherence to proper procedures and emergency protocols.

Assist in establishing all production related goals, objectives, and targets.
Ensure that all established cost, productivity, quality, and safety standards are met.
Responsible for managing manpower needs to maintain productivity and meet daily operational requirements.
Responsible for the daily activities of all hourly employees throughout the department.
Ensure all safety concerns and accidents are investigated promptly.
Ensure that environmental policies and procedures are understood, and issues/incidents are investigated and addressed promptly.
Implement a culture of continuous improvement
Coordinate training for production employees.
Perform daily routine walks throughout the department to ensure all production related activities are running smoothly.
Continually analyze departmental training needs for all employees and develop a plan to achieve these needs.
Understand and exercise the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Apply discipline to all employees as deemed necessary.
Provide leadership and ensure communication within a team environment to achieve the production objectives.
Report on the team's shift activities and observations, safety meetings and production level.
Complete the weekly payroll for the production teams.
Work rotating shifts and overtime as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
Bachelor of Engineering degree or Technologist or relevant plant experience
Production management and supervisory experience.
Strong technical/engineering background and knowledge of industrial recycling technologies and manufacturing process an asset
A solid track record of effectively leading, managing and supervising a unionized work force
Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental training
U.W.O. Supervisory Course or equivalent course or proven work experience
Working knowledge of the latest edition of ISO/IATF procedures
