The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lab Technician to join our team at KMH Cardiology Centres Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to laboratory testing, including Holter monitor installation and download, blood pressure monitor installation and download, and electrocardiogram (ECG) testing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install and download Holter monitors and blood pressure monitors
  • Perform ECG testing and provide tracings to physicians
  • Conduct tests in accordance with CSCT and KMH protocols, policies, and procedures
  • Instruct patients on ambulatory procedures and equipment
  • Apply independent judgment and critical thinking during tests
  • Refer to ECG Technologists, Team leads, supervising physicians, and internal specialists for QA and procedural advice
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition
  • Ensure equipment is well-maintained and in good working order
  • Work with cross-functional teams to assist with patient care
  • Attend team meetings and updates
  • Coordinate patient care during appointments
  • Answer patient inquiries by phone and in person
  • Maintain electronic medical records
  • Interview patients and acquire past medical history
  • Assist ECG technologists in daily operations
  • Ensure patient confidentiality
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent
  • Lab Technician (certified)
  • ECG and Ambulatory Monitors experience is an asset
  • Clinic experience is an asset
  • Proven ability to work proficiently in a busy, fast-paced specialist clinic environment
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, with an ability to multitask, establish priorities, and achieve objectives with minimal supervision
  • BLS
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good telephone etiquette
  • Proficiency in technology, including MS Office and EMR systems experience
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to deal with sensitive information with a high degree of diplomacy
