As the Manager of Health Care Services, you will oversee the delivery of comprehensive health care services within a secure facility.

You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care, managing resources efficiently, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the team towards achieving strategic goals and maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and professional standards.

Please note:
As this is a frontline essential position, your physical presence at the office is crucial to this role. You are required to be onsite at the Toronto South Detention Centre five days a week.


About us:


TheCorrectional Services Division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General is responsible for maintaining and operating provincial correctional institutions for adult offenders, 18 years and over, who are serving a sentence of up to two years less a day or who are awaiting criminal proceedings.

This ministry is also responsible for the community supervision of persons on probation, conditional sentences and provincial parole.

As the Manager of Health Care Services, your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, coordinating, directing, and evaluating health care programs and services, including the pharmacy program, within a large secure facility.
  • Providing leadership to a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals to ensure the delivery of efficient and quality health care services.
  • Supporting a values-based and inclusive environment through oversight of healthcare services.
  • Offering professional expertise, advice, and direction to ensure services and programs comply with ministry policy, legislation, and professional standards.
  • Developing, planning, and implementing health education programs for patients and staff.
  • Ensuring the efficient use of human, physical, and financial resources to provide quality care.
  • Ensuring patient safety by reporting and investigating unsafe practices or professional misconduct, and documenting incidents in accordance with ministry policies, the College of Nurses of Ontario standards, and applicable legislation and regulations.
How do I qualify?Mandatory

  • You must be currently registered as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Leadership and Management Skills:

  • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary health care team in delivering patient-centered health care services.
  • Proficiency in planning, coordinating, managing, and directing the day-to-day delivery of healthcare services in a unionized environment.
  • Proven skills in managing staff, providing leadership, coaching, directing, and fostering an engaged and inclusive environment.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and methodologies to meet operational program deliverables.
Nursing Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Knowledge of health care administration and evidence-based health care practices.
  • Proven knowledge and competency in applying the College of Nurses of Ontario professional standards and practices to supervise nursing services within a correctional environment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Regulated Health Professions Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Mental Health Act.
Technical Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of human resources practices, collective agreement provisions, financial and administrative policies, quality management, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, such as the Regulated Health Professions Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Mental Health Act.
Other Essential Skills:

  • Proven interpersonal, oral communication, and conflict resolution skills to provide consultation and resolve issues with stakeholders and staff.
  • Strong writing skills to prepare reports.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and judgment skills, with proficiency in computer software applications
