Job Title: Applied Research Technologist II

Camosun College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Applied Research Technologist II to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for liaising with industry partners, faculty, and students on a wide range of projects and technical tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a primary contact with industry partners to discuss project needs, scope, milestones, and technical activities.
  • Oversee student activities on applicable projects, ensuring timelines and budget are met.
  • Develop and guide students on the proper use of specialized equipment and software.
  • Participate in presentations to clients and students.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and legislation.
  • Maintain and repair equipment, computers, and software in your area of expertise.
  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain a wide range of equipment associated with your area of expertise.
  • Design products associated with your area of expertise, considering relevant properties, methods, and requirements.
  • Act as a resource to the team in your area of expertise, providing knowledge of applicable materials, processes, and equipment.
  • Ensure students and team members are aware of safe equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Initiate and support continuous improvement of relevant processes.
  • Attend and participate in weekly management and other applicable meetings.
  • Provide effective customer service to industry clients, faculty, and students.
  • Support department and college initiatives, participating in events such as open houses and career fairs.
  • Generate quotes and invoices for current projects.
  • Provide technical expertise for grant applications and track project progress using project management software.
  • Conduct tests, collect data, and analyze information related to your area of expertise.
  • Assess deliverables to ensure client expectations are met.
  • Provide feedback to instructors on student assessments.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in a relevant field such as Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Three years of related experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Knowledge of project management practices, electrical circuits, electronic components, and control systems.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students and overseeing learning activities.
  • Strong commitment to student learning and mentorship.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, including presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service.
  • Quick learner, keeping up with technology advancements.
  • Self-starter with creative thinking, thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
  • Works with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite and Teams.
  • Willingness to obtain a Lift-Truck (Fork Lift) Operator certificate.
