About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Housing Advocate to join our team at the Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA). As a Housing Advocate, you will play a critical role in supporting Indigenous individuals and families who are at risk of homelessness or are currently experiencing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocate and support Indigenous individuals and families in accessing and maintaining safe and affordable housing
  • Develop and implement individualized housing plans to address the unique needs of each client
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, service providers, and government agencies to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Provide education and support to clients on housing options, tenant rights, and responsibilities
  • Conduct home visits and assessments to identify client needs and develop solutions
  • Collaborate with the Nihdawin Program team to provide wraparound services and support to clients
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports on client progress and program outcomes
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in social work, indigenous learning, women's studies, or a related field
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in community service delivery, with a focus on housing and homelessness
  • Knowledge of housing systems, including Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program
  • Proven experience in advocacy, with a focus on supporting Indigenous individuals and families
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on achieving program outcomes
  • Valid G Class Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check
  • First Aid/CPR certification
