DUTIES:
Reporting to the Manager, Arenas & Recreation Facilities or designate, this position will be responsible to carry out all phases of work under the jurisdiction of Sports Services, which include Arenas, Concessions, and other revenue-producing services. Will assist the Manager, Arenas & Recreation Facilities where required, including recruitment of part time staff, staff supervision, programming, scheduling, evaluation reports, and the supervision of maintenance operations. Will carry out normal bookkeeping and office procedures. As part of the Recreation & Culture staff team, will assist with departmental and cross-divisional projects and programs to further the departmental and corporate goals and objectives. Will be required to be part of the rotation for being on-call for the division and to supervise facilities during major events. Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation's Health and Safety Program. Will perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a University Degree in Arena Management, Recreation, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and a minimum of two (2) years experience working in and/or managing a Recreation facility including having acquired skills in supervision, coordination, scheduling, communication, mechanical, structural construction and refrigeration.
- OR Must have a Community College Diploma in the field of either Arena Management, Recreation, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and a minimum of four (4) years experience working in and/or managing a Recreation facility including having acquired skills in supervision, coordination, scheduling, communication, mechanical, structural construction and refrigeration.
- OR Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency plus one year of post secondary courses in Arena Management, Recreation, Business Administration or Public Administration or related field or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalencies and a minimum of six (6) years experience working in and/or managing a Recreation facility including having acquired skills in supervision, coordination, scheduling, communication, mechanical, structural construction and refrigeration.
- Must possess a valid Class B Refrigeration Operator certificate.
- Must have the ability to travel to off-site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful Driver's Licence is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and must provide a driver's abstract as a condition of employment.
- Must have knowledge of related business practices and be able to prepare reports, perform banking duties, make surveys and recommendations, prepare budgets and be capable of implementing contracts for modifications and repairs.
- Must have the ability to work various shifts, seven days per week to supervise multiple facilities.
- Should have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work.
- Will be required to complete and remain current as per the requirements of the Corporation's Management Certificate Program.
- Progression through the Art of Supervision Program Certificate or a supervisory program of a similar nature is considered an asset.
- The physical demands analysis associated with this position indicates a light level of work.
