The Director, Research Facilities is a member of the UHN Facilities Management - Planning, Redevelopment and Operations (FM-PRO) and the research management team.

Duties

  • Oversees the facility operational management of research facilities.
  • Working with research management by participating in large scale grants and being a key influence in legislation/regulations affecting the research operational environment. Responsible for facilities operations (PMCRT and KDT) and contractual relationship management; and, laboratory operational support programs including Laboratory Operations, Sterilization Services, and the Supply Centre.
  • Manages human resources, departmental planning, and oversees quality initiatives. manages the financial resources of the department.
  • Other corporate management and cross functional responsibilities.
  • in collaboration with FM-PRO Directors, consults client groups including Research Institute Leadership, Scientists, and RSS Leadership in their mandate and accountabilities in the provision of programs and services in Research Facilities Operations.
  • Ensures collaboration with the above client groups and with the Directors of FM-PRO, specifically with the Director, Research Facilities Capital & Strategy to ensure that the goals/objectives of the programs and services requiring space and/or capital are supported and achieved consistent with UHN Strategic Priorities.
  • Responsible for the processes and procedures followed to successfully deliver facility operational services for UHN Research.
Qualifications
  • At minimum over 10 years and up to and including 15 years of practical and related experience.
  • Extensive experience in medical research labs
  • Experience in the healthcare sector or the public sector, with knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies is highly desirable.
  • Outstanding judgement, negotiation, persuasion skills
  • Process integration and improvement skills
  • Outstanding management and complex cross-functional team work skills
  • Excellent change management, leadership and motivational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication including report writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Ability to implement changes and work effectively in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements
