Join our team at The Montessori Country School, a fully-licensed childcare centre, registered private school and accredited Montessori school, providing programs for children ages 18 months to 12 years.

About the Role

The Assistant Teacher will engage each child in the classroom with hands-on learning and assist the lead teacher(s) in executing their role(s). This person will reflect our mission and vision to provide high quality care for children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the lead teacher(s) in planning and implementing a program that provides for the optimal physical, cognitive, social and emotional wellbeing of the children in care.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member, encouraging others to do likewise and consistently maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Take initiative in completing tasks without direction.
  • Participate with children in all planned activities.
  • Effectively supervise children on all scheduled school walks, field trips and other outings.
  • Develop strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, establishing rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and in-house professional development.
  • Maintain confidentiality of clients, co-workers and the school centre as appropriate.
  • Support parents' needs and maintain a supportive relationship with them on a professional level while following school policies.
Requirements
  • Up-to-date First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Up-to-date Immunization and 2-tiered TB test.
  • Experience working with children between 18 months – 6 years (childcare experience an asset).
  • Strong organizational, communication, parent education and leadership skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Confident and flexible professionalism.
  • A love of outdoors.
