About the RoleThe Assistant Teacher will engage each child in the classroom with hands-on learning and assist the lead teacher(s) in executing their role(s). This person will reflect our mission and vision to provide high quality care for children.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the lead teacher(s) in planning and implementing a program that provides for the optimal physical, cognitive, social and emotional wellbeing of the children in care.
- Work cooperatively as a team member, encouraging others to do likewise and consistently maintaining a positive attitude.
- Take initiative in completing tasks without direction.
- Participate with children in all planned activities.
- Effectively supervise children on all scheduled school walks, field trips and other outings.
- Develop strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, establishing rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings and in-house professional development.
- Maintain confidentiality of clients, co-workers and the school centre as appropriate.
- Support parents' needs and maintain a supportive relationship with them on a professional level while following school policies.
- Up-to-date First Aid and CPR certification.
- Up-to-date Immunization and 2-tiered TB test.
- Experience working with children between 18 months – 6 years (childcare experience an asset).
- Strong organizational, communication, parent education and leadership skills.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Confident and flexible professionalism.
- A love of outdoors.
