The Clinic Nurse, Eating Disorders Program provides and coordinates outpatient nursing activities such as patient assessment, patient and family teaching, and health promotion activities consistent with established policies, standards of practice, and philosophy at British Columbia's Children's Hospital. Liaises with other members of the health care team, maintains accurate records, provides support and guidance to patients and their families and other health care professionals, and provides input into policies and procedures.

What you'll do

• Collect and document patient health care information on patients and their families. Maintain complete and accurate records of nursing observation, interventions, teaching and evaluation of nursing care. Maintain complete and accurate records of telephone communications as well.
• Plan and coordinate direct patient care activities in the clinic by utilizing and implementing appropriate nursing skills/techniques in the care of the eating disorder patient, ensuring patients have gone for tests/exams, reviewing lab/test results, and liaising with physicians, families, community partners, and medical units to ensure appropriate patient follow up.
• Liaise and collaborate with other members of the health care team to plan, implement and evaluate patient care in the clinic setting.
• Initiate and coordinate assessment and post assessment referrals, responds to patient, family and health care member's enquiries, and liaise with other support diagnostic services/ community health services in coordinating patient referrals.
• Participate in the orientation and continuing education of nursing staff and students by role modelling, preceptoring, and providing in-service education.
• Act as a clinical resource/support person to patients and families, and provides guidance to nursing and health care professionals, as required.

What you bring

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP). Graduate from an approved School of Nursing.
• Two (2) years recent related clinical nursing experience including eating disorders experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

You also have the ability to:

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Relate effectively to youth, children and their families and others.
• Provide supportive counselling to youth and their families.
• Function as an active member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Function as a nursing resource and teach health care students about eating disorders.
• Operate related equipment.
• Perform the duties of the job.
• Organize work.
• Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents - including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - and how they intersect across the health care system.
• Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act
• As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
