Job Summary

Maintains kitchen work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition by performing various duties. Assists cook staff in meal preparation and serving as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintains a clean and neat appearance, adhering to the company's uniform policy.
  • Participates in job-specific and company safety training.
  • Maintains confidentiality of company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures awareness of Chartwells' contractual obligations for the project.
  • Reviews duties to reduce costs and increase profitability without compromising standards.
  • Advises management on purchasing requirements to minimize inventory costs and avoid product shortages.
  • Cleans tables in eating areas as needed to maintain a clean environment.
  • Assists in the kitchen during production as needed.
  • Follows principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.
  • Ensures good order and maintenance of equipment by reporting deficiencies to management.
  • Receives and stores supply orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Rotates stock using the FIFO method and adheres to HACCP regulations.
  • Scrapes food from dirty dishes and washes them by hand or places them in racks for the dishwashing machine.
  • Washes pots, pans, and trays, sweeps and mops kitchen floors, and washes worktables and equipment.
  • Segregates and removes trash and garbage, and places it in designated containers.
  • Washes and peels vegetables and other food as directed by cook staff.
  • May be required to clean staff washrooms.
  • Completes daily pot sink sanitizing log and reports any issues to management.
  • Completes receiving temperature log as required and reports any issues to management.
  • May be required to perform fridge temperature checks and record in the appropriate log, reporting any issues to management.
  • Fills out all HACCP logs and reports any discrepancies to management immediately.
  • Follows opening, closing, and cleaning checklists.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience in the food services industry is an asset.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Must be physically able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand/walk for most of the shift.
