Feasibility Assessment Assistant

Faculty of Environment

Term, Part-time (20 hours per week)

June November 2024

Purpose

Reporting to the Dean of Faculty of Education, the Feasibility Assessment Assistant will conduct a feasibility assessment for designing and/or purchasing one or more mobile lab units that would be used to facilitate the offering of UNBC field courses and other short-duration courses in regions outside of Prince George.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:


•Contacting stakeholders, scheduling meetings, arranging travel, for faculty to consult with key stakeholders and communities, and maintaining ongoing communication as a liaison;


•Conducting literature review to compare mobile lab units at other universities;


•Meeting with faculty members and recording the stated needs of individuals who would be interested in using the units for teaching;


•Quantifying the costs of different lab options to allow comparison among options and cost-benefit analyses (i.e., researching available units and components for purchase, listing information in spreadsheets to facilitate comparisons);


•Identifying risks and challenges through review of literature;


•Assessing what barriers there might be to scheduling labs and courses using a block-course format;


•Assisting with writing a proposal to fund the purchase; and


•Assisting with writing the final report.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following:


•A Bachelors degree in an environmental or sciences discipline;


•At least 1 year of related experience:


•Strong organizational, writing, communication, literature search, and research skills;


•Polite and respectful approach to interacting with stakeholders; and


•Experience writing proposals and grant reports.

Salary

This position has been interim rated at a Grade 5. The annual salary range for this position is $53,489.80 to $55,673.80 and the normal starting salary will be $53,489.80 , pro-rated based on length of term and hours worked.
