This position is located within a health-care facility, therefore, the successful candidate will be required to provide verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by a provincial health mandate.

The University of British Columbia Department of Psychiatry invites applications for a part-time (0.5 FTE) post-doctoral fellow in eating disorders. The primary areas of research will include evaluation of the implementation of the Provincial Eating Disorders Training Hub. Opportunities are available for collaboration and research relating to eating disorders across the developmental spectrum, in the provincial pediatric and adult tertiary eating disorders programs. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with members of the BC Eating Disorders Research Excellence Cluster. The follow will contribute to ongoing studies and develop independent projects, obtain experience in grant-writing, and collaborate on knowledge translation and mobilization activities. The Fellow will have the opportunity to engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to foster development as a clinician-scientist.

The Fellow will be based at the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute, on the BC Children's Hospital campus, with the possibility of work at other sites (e.g., the Provincial Adult Tertiary and Specialized Eating Disorders Program at St. Paul's Hospital) depending on research interests and collaborations.

Organizational Status:

Reports to Dr. Jennifer Coelho. The Fellow will liaise with faculty, students and staff within the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, the Provincial Pediatric and Adult Specialized Eating Disorders Programs, and external agencies and personnel in health authorities, and other knowledge users.

Work Performed:

  • Collaboration with an implementation science team to evaluate the impact of a new Provincial Eating Disorders Training Hub on clinician, youth, and family outcomes.
  • Evaluate data to identify opportunities to incorporate equity-focused considerations in the implementation of the provincial training activities.
  • Engages in research collaborations with academic, clinical and other knowledge users.
  • Contributes to ongoing studies and develops independent projects related to provincial research priorities.
  • Identify funding opportunities and collaborate on grant proposals.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in clinical psychology or related field.
  • Track record of publication related to eating disorders/mental health.
  • Strong skills in statistical analysis
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and demonstrated excellence in writing/knowledge translation activities.
  • Previous experience in grant writing is an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Supervision Received:

Reports to Dr. Jennifer Coelho. The Fellow will work with a high degree of independence and set priorities under broad directives from Dr. Coelho. Supervision may also be provided by other investigators and collaborators.

Supervision Given:

The Fellow may provide supervision and training to other junior students/trainees or research staff.

Consequence of Error:

The Fellow is accountable for the quality and integrity of the research and data, including analyses and interpretation, as well as the effective management of research projects and related deliverables. Incorrect decisions or actions may lead to loss of credibility, and loss of funds.

Compensation:

$40,000 (plus benefits) for a 0.5 FTE post-doctoral fellowship. One year term of the position, with the possibility of renewal. Preferred start date is between July 1-October 1, 2024.
