**Job Summary:** Cake Decorator needed to create exceptional bakery products and provide superior customer service in a fast-paced retail environment.
Safeway grocery stores provide an exceptional food shopping experience to consumers from Vancouver, British Columbia to Thunder Bay, Ontario. We are the newest member of Sobeys Inc.'s retail food offering which serves the needs of Canadians with more than 1,500 stores in over 800 communities from coast-to-coast.
A day in the life of a Cake Decorator: Making that moment extra special is what our Cake Decorators do at Safeway. The sweet aromas of our own fresh-baked Artisan breads, pastries, cookies, and muffins make our Bakery a must-stop place for customers. It's a fun sales opportunity and a creative one, too. You'll find yourself able to give truly personal service here, helping our customers plan parties and introducing them to our new offerings and personalizing their baked goods.
**Responsibilities:**
- Responsible for superior service goals of the department
- Greets customers in a polite and friendly manner
- Icing, finishing, personalizing and decorating specialty bakery product
- Ensure standards of department presentation and operations are met; including cleanliness and sanitation, inventory control, rotation, quality, ordering, variety standards, signing, seasonal schematic, and proper backroom procedures
- Ensure the department has the highest quality of product available for the customer
- Monitor to ensure variety standards are followed, as well as 100% compliance on ad item display
**Requirements:**
- Ability to learn quickly
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Highly motivated and team-oriented
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form
- Possess strong customer service qualities
- Works in a safe and responsible manner
- Available to work flexible hours
- Evening and weekend availability is strongly encouraged
- Must be available to be scheduled anytime on Sunday (Alberta Only)
**Physical Requirements:**
- Frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds
- Constant hand coordination, reaching, gripping
- Frequent standing, walking, bending
- Occasional lifting or carrying of between 10-45 lbs including waist level and low level lifts
- Occasional climbing (step ladder, stairs), squatting, pushing or pulling
