The Aerostructure Market of Héroux-Devtek focuses on a complete line of precision machined structural components and assemblies, from simple aluminum parts to large monolithic five-axis complex components.

Summary of position:

The mechanical design engineer works with customer drawings, documents, and models to create in-house product designs.

Main responsibilities:

Complete design review of in-house designs, and makes revisions as needed
* Create 3D models of parts and assemblies using Solidworks or Catia
* Create detailed part and assembly and tooling drawings with the latest Cad software
* Utilize a strong sense of ingenuity to accomplish tooling design for manufacturing within the brazing / bonding process
* Engage in APQP & DFMEA activities to identify and mitigate risk in the product design
* Interact with production floor personnel to determine the most effective way to build line of products
* Assist and provide input for the creation of visual work instructions for the manufacture of products
* Manage several design projects simultaneously and complete in a timely manner
* Identify and select materials needed for production and create BOM
* Create documentation for various manufacturing methods
* Provide solutions to resolve design and manufacturing issues
* Provide suggestions for continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND REQUIRED
Degree or Diploma in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
Highly computer literate.

WORK EXPERIENCE
* 3+ years of full-time Mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.
* Strong solid modelling skills in Solidworks and / or Catia.
* In depth knowledge of GD&T required.
* Sound knowledge of aerospace manufacturing techniques and methods (knowledge of NADCAP considered an asset).
* Sound knowledge of APQP & FMEA processes.
* Experience with MRP software (i.e. Baan, SAP, MES, Oracle) for production and material planning is a strong asset.
* Good understanding of Lean Manufacturing principals and continuous improvement as related to aerospace industry production.
* Knowledge / experience with heat treatment and brazing is considered a strong asset.
