Reporting organizationally to the Executive Director of Government Engagement and Stakeholder Relations and with a focus on Canada, the Senior Manager Government Essential Services will be a key member of the FIFA26 Government Engagement team. This position will work in close collaboration with government entities at the municipal, provincial, federal and international levels on essential services required to deliver the FIFA World Cup 26TM in the Host Country of Canada.
THE POSITION The main responsibilities and oversight of the Senior Manager, Government Essential Services, for the FIFA World Cup 26TM include:
  • Develop and implement a government relations strategy for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada, aligning with organizational objectives.
  • Focus efforts on relationships with all levels of government across the two host cities, provinces and country, including supporting hosting requirements of government agencies and departments and their established Working Groups.
  • Collaborate with various functional areas across the FIFA organization (e.g., logistics, visas, safety and security, ticketing, commercialization, etc.) where government essential services and respective government regulations/laws are understood to ensure the effective delivery of the event in Canada.
  • Monitor and track government commitments.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, briefings, planning documents and reports to government officials, conveying the benefits and impact of the World Cup and addressing any concerns or queries.
  • Liaison with international, national and local governmental tables/committees when/if FIFA Word Cup updates are needed on behalf of Canada.
  • Lead annual government event report and progress tracking on behalf of the Canadian HQ.
  • Support the Executive Director on facilitating communications with government decision-makers including the identification of impact and legacies aligned with government priorities.
  • Support FIFA World Cup 2026 with function area experts on any federal working groups required to manage the Canadian Government's commitments and facilitate across key areas (ex. safety & security, visas & immigration, human rights, etc.)
  • Ongoing liaison with senior officials from the Federal, Provincial and Municipal sector/government, as required.
  • Support the organization on key meetings and events with local elected/non-elected officials.
  • Provide proactive and reactive support concerning government issues that may arise including monitoring legislative and policy changes that could impact the project.
  • Support FIFA World Cup 2026 Dignitary Program including assisting with guest lists, protocol and compliance.

Education & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or similar level of higher education

Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working in government relations
  • Experience working with government agencies and departments
  • Experience leading and/or managing complex working groups
  • Team player, willing with pitch in where needed
  • Strong stakeholder communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Solid time management capabilities
  • Ability to lead, manage, and motivate teams

Languages:
  • Fluent in English. French proficiency is a plus

Technology:
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools
