The interior designer will entail working closely with several internal and external stakeholders to develop interior design plans, renderings and schedules for the development of new Fueling Brains Academies. The successful candidate will be responsible to support the real estate team and external architecture, engineering and construction firms (and collaborate with our inhouse graphic design team) by utilizing their design knowledge to create prototypes and scalable and standards-based approaches for the growth of our new academies across North America.

The primary outcomes of this position are to develop a set of interior design mockups, specifications for thematic learning spaces. You will be responsible for interviewing and iterating with our instructional staff, operational stakeholders, builders, real estate team and ownership groups to complete in-depth functional needs assessments and to produce a facilities development standards guide in line with the company's FB-LEDI program.

Position: Full-Time (Three Month Contract with possibility for extensions)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct functional needs assessments with all departments as it relates to physical infrastructure
  • Hosting design charrettes with various stakeholders of the company
  • Create user groups analysis for students/parents/staff
  • Create experience journeys for each for groups
  • Design and modularize the layouts for small, medium and large prototypical campuses (in one and two story configurations)
  • Draw detailed interior and exterior elevations for all components
  • Design all specialty construction, custom built furniture and items (such as water tables, light/shadow rooms, stages etc...)
  • Design thematic installations that can be used in pieces or in whole in accordance with our thematic learning initiatives
  • Design and modularize all back of house components
  • Create all Interior Design standards (including: lighting, RCP, flooring, specialty construction, media etc...) including the list of expected deliverables for external consultants
  • Create renderings
  • Specification writing
  • Coordination of drawings and interface with outside consultants, contractors, stakeholders etc...
  • Participate in and/or give presentations to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Marketing to design the implementation of signage

Skills Needed in this Job:

  • Must have excellent interviewing and listening skills

  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given and/or develop project parameters and prescribed routines
  • Must have excellent proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch Up, Bluebeam Revu
  • Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft Office 365, Google Suite, )
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders in English
  • Must have good document handling knowledge and privacy standards

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • A degree in in interior design from an accredited university
  • Previous experience as an interior designer
  • Previous experience developing "store in a box" or "kit of parts"

Work Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to travel within the city of Calgary and to other locations, as required within Canada and/or the United States.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given and/or develop project parameters and prescribed routines
  • Must have good document handling knowledge and privacy standards
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone or teleconference
  • Fully familiar and comfortable with virtual mode of communication including Zoom, Google Meet or any other video conferencing tool
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Personable and a likable personality
