Detailed OverviewIn alignment with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards and Fraser Health's Mission and Values, the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse plays a crucial role in providing psychiatric nursing care services to tertiary and older adult patients dealing with serious mental health and bio-psychosocial issues. The RN/RPN showcases nursing expertise, offers clinical leadership in evidence-based practices, and conducts various direct care activities.
Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned clients
- Develop and document psycho-social rehabilitative plans
- Facilitate individual and group treatment
- Provide life skills training and support the therapeutic program
- Collect and report relevant assessments and observations
- Advocate for clients' rights and autonomy
- Participate in quality improvement activities and research
- Contribute to patient care programs and committees
- Maintain a safe environment for clients, families, and staff
- Perform other related duties as required
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and a minimum of one year of recent related mental health experience. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BCCNM. Additional requirements may include completion of a substance use certificate program and possessing a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
Skills and Abilities- Ability to conduct mental health and substance use client assessments
- Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment
- Understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery
- Familiarity with psychopharmacology and crisis intervention
- Counselling, group facilitation, and communication skills
- Knowledge of legislation and government policies related to mental health and substance use
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Organization, prioritization, and collaboration abilities
- Capacity to promote person-centered care and educate clients and families
- Proficiency in using relevant equipment and computer applications
- Physical capability to fulfill job responsibilities
