As a key member of the Indigenous Relations Team, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining strong relationships with First Nations communities, ensuring that their rights and interests are respected and protected.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and Maintain Relationships: Provide specialized expertise in building and maintaining ongoing First Nations relationships, facilitating conflict resolution and ensuring duty to consult and related documentation and regulatory processes are executed.
  • Lead Consultation Efforts: Lead BC Hydro's consultation with First Nations on regulatory and provincial authorizations, including responding to information requests and ensuring adequacy of consultation has been met.
  • Ensure Compliance: Support compliance through meeting First Nation conditions and commitments under provincial and federal authorizations.
  • Lead Capital Project Consultation: Lead the First Nation consultation component on capital projects, developing consultation plans during project scoping and identifying and consulting with Project Managers to execute the First Nation component.
  • Apply Relationship Management Skills: Demonstrate advanced knowledge of relationship management, applying persuasive influence and negotiation, and building and maintaining trust within highly diverse communities in the Province.
  • Conduct Needs Assessment: Conduct current and future needs assessment for Indigenous Relations and prioritize needs.
  • Resolve Complex Situations: Evaluate complex situations that may occur during consultation stages, and identify options and alternatives for finding resolution while balancing cultural, territorial and other considerations.
  • Provide Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to Project Coordinators and other junior roles in all aspects of project planning, execution, documentation, records management and relationship management with First Nations.
