Job Summary:


As a Licensed Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting pharmacists in providing efficient and accurate pharmaceutical services to patients.

Working under the supervision of a pharmacist, you will perform various tasks related to medication preparation, dispensing, inventory management, and customer service, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Medication Dispensing: Accurately and safely prepare prescription medications under the direction of a pharmacist, including counting, measuring, and labeling.
  • Prescription Processing: Receive and process prescription orders, ensuring completeness and accuracy of information. Verify prescription details and patient information in accordance with pharmacy protocols.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining pharmacy inventory by ordering, receiving, and stocking medications and supplies. Monitor inventory levels and expiration dates, and conduct regular inventory audits.
  • Customer Service: Provide friendly and professional customer service to patients and healthcare providers. Answer inquiries about medications, dosage instructions, and general pharmacy policies.
  • Compounding: Prepare compounded medications as per prescriptions and in compliance with established guidelines and regulations.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and uptodate records of prescription orders, dispensing activities, and inventory transactions. Ensure adherence to privacy and confidentiality policies.
  • Quality Assurance: Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control measures to ensure the accuracy, safety, and integrity of pharmaceutical products and services.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant provincial and federal regulations governing pharmacy practice, including the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) standards of practice and guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care and pharmacy operations.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Pharmacy Technician: Must be a registered/licensed pharmacy technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP), holding a valid Certificate of Qualification (Part A) or registered in the Pharmacy Technician program (Part B).
  • Education: Completion of a Pharmacy Technician diploma program from a recognized institution. Continuing education and professional development are encouraged.
  • Experience: Prior experience working in a pharmacy setting is preferred but not mandatory. New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in pharmacy software systems (e.g., Kroll, Nexxsys) and familiarity with pharmacy automation technologies. Strong mathematical skills for medication calculations.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with patients, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in medication preparation, dispensing, and documentation.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and timemanagement abilities to prioritize tasks and manage workflow efficiently in a fastpaced environment.
  • Professionalism: Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, ethical standards, and professionalism in all interactions.

Working Conditions:

  • The position may require standing for extended periods and lifting/moving heavy boxes or containers of medications.
  • Work shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on the needs of the pharmacy.
