Key Responsibilities- Process and prepare medication orders for distribution to patients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Verify prescriptions and ensure they are complete and authentic, performing duties such as checking allergy status and demographics.
- Prepare and process prescriptions by entering orders, counting, measuring, packaging, or re-packaging medications and compounding sterile pharmaceutical products, including hazardous drugs.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions by verifying order entries and performing final checks.
- Enter and ensure the accuracy and completeness of drug and personal health information in the pharmacy information system.
- Transfer prescriptions to and receive prescriptions from other pharmacies.
- Process prescriptions for temporary inpatient leave of absence by reviewing, translating, and converting existing inpatient medication orders.
- Maintain accurate records, including medication verification and quality assurance checks.
- Distribute medications and maintain relevant inventory, wardstock, and narcotic records.
- Maintain inventory and wardstock levels, filling requisitions as needed.
- Identify outdated drugs to be returned or destroyed by checking stock for lot expiry dates.
- Maintain department work areas, ensuring tidiness and order, and stock pharmaceuticals, labels, containers, and glassware.
- Perform related clerical duties, such as keyboarding, answering the phone, filing, and maintaining medication and prescription records.
- Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to keyboard.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
