Position Summary
Working under the supervision of senior staff, the Research clerk exercises moderate judgment and decision-making in utilizing established policies and procedures to resolve problems. The research clerk will assist laboratory studies related to genetics and biomarkers in dementia. These will include working with biofluids from patients and controls including but not limited to blood, plasma, serum, cerebrospinal fluid and skin samples. This position will assist in sample collection, including venipuncture and processing blood samples, DNA extraction, and related experimental procedures such as running ELISA assays. Phlebotomy training will be provided.

Duties
A Research clerk is being sought to help conduct clinical research on patients with dementia.

  • Applies fundamental knowledge of research principles, theories and concepts
  • Applies knowledge of research regulations and guidelines, such as ICH/GCP guidelines, Tri-Council Policy, Declaration of Helsinki and FDA CFR and Health Canada TPD,
  • As required, knowledge of medical terminology and/or dealing with regulatory issues.
  • Working under the supervision of senior staff, exercises moderate judgment and decision-making in utilizing established policies and procedures to resolve problems.
  • Assist laboratory studies related to genetics and biomarkers in dementia. These will include working with biofluids from patients and controls including but not limited to blood, plasma, serum, cerebrospinal fluid and skin samples.
  • Assist in sample collection, including venipuncture and processing blood samples, DNA extraction, and related experimental procedures such as running ELISA assays.
  • Keep a detail log of all experiments related to all projects.
  • Assisting in keeping track of supplies and reagents in the laboratory involved in performing the assays.
  • Assist in various administrative duties including literature searches, preparation of reports, and developing applications for approvals.
  • Phlebotomy/ sample collection.
  • Prepares, receives, sorts and processes clinical research samples/ specimens following established procedures and guidelines and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Keeping a detail log for all experiments related to all projects
  • Keep track of inventory for lab supplies
  • Venipuncture training will be provided
Qualifications
  • Completion of XII or equivalent is required. Completion of a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in health related field is preferred.
  • At minimum, six (6) months of related experience is required. One (1) year related experience preferred, experience in medical or research environment preferred
  • Knowledge of research regulations and guidelines, such as ICH/GCP guidelines, Tri-Council Policy, Declaration of Helsinki and FDA CFR and Health Canada TPD, as required
  • Knowledge of IATA shipping regulations and basic laboratory procedures, as required
  • Excellent problem solving skills required
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team in a health care setting an asset
  • Excellent excellent organization, prioritization skills, good computer skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks
