Job Summary

The University Health Network is seeking a highly skilled Food Service Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our Food Services department, you will be responsible for ensuring that patient meal services are prepared, prethermalized, and delivered in an efficient, safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise staff in various activities such as food portioning, dish room operations, food service work on units, and delivery of meals and nourishments.
  • Ensure adequate staff resources are scheduled by reviewing staffing requirements and assigning employees according to their job training.
  • Conduct employee investigations, document/initiate disciplinary action as deemed necessary, and address attendance management with staff.
  • Accountable for belt line output by checking trays are accurate to specified diet order, portioning is correct, checking temperatures, authorizing substitutions, and alerting the diet office of any patient menu concerns.
  • Visit patients and/or their families to ensure their understanding of and satisfaction with meal services.
  • Communicate with nursing staff on patient-related issues or operational requirements.
  • Review and analyze production and tally sheets by comparing production to actual menu selections.
  • Participate in Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs as needed.
Requirements
  • Community College Diploma (Food Service Supervisor) required.
  • Canadian Food Handler's Certification upon hire and recertify this credential every five years required.
  • 2-3 years related supervisory experience in an unionized environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to effectively manage and resolve conflict, and basic computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends.
