Pharmacist Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Pharmacist to join our team at Bella Coola General Hospital. As a Pharmacist, you will play a vital role in providing safe and effective pharmacy services to our patients.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Interpreting medication orders and dispensing medications using a computerized medication information system
  • Assessing prescriptions for therapeutic suitability and ensuring that medications are efficiently and accurately dispensed and/or compounded
  • Communicating with physicians, patients, and other healthcare team members for prescription clarification and problem resolution
  • Providing instructions to others on proper use, administration, storage, and disposal of medications
  • Participating in the collection of data for medication use evaluation projects and implementing dispensary-based medication safety initiatives
Responsibilities

  • Interpret medication orders and dispense medications using a computerized medication information system
  • Assess prescriptions for therapeutic suitability and ensure medications are efficiently and accurately dispensed and/or compounded
  • Communicate with physicians, patients, and other healthcare team members for prescription clarification and problem resolution
  • Provide instructions to others on proper use, administration, storage, and disposal of medications
  • Participate in the collection of data for medication use evaluation projects and implement dispensary-based medication safety initiatives
  • Maintain records for narcotic and controlled drugs, special access program drugs, and departmental statistics
  • Participate in the orientation of pharmacy students, residents, technicians, assistants, and new staff members
  • Contribute to internal publications and participate in clinical drug trials
Qualifications

  • Current registration as a Pharmacist with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia
  • Broad knowledge of organization policies, procedures, and standards of care
  • Knowledge of evidence-based clinical pharmacy practice
  • Knowledge of medication use evaluation
  • Knowledge of research processes and methodology
  • Ability to apply clinical pharmacy knowledge and make decisions
  • Ability to supervise and provide work direction to staff
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other healthcare practitioners, patients, family members, and the public
