The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Regional Commander of East Region seeks qualified individuals to manage court case files, provide liaison services with the court, monitor the progress of files through the court system, provide court security services for the court, and to participate in the escort of offenders.

Note:

During this selection process, candidates are required to undergo mandatory requirements of psychological evaluation, background investigation and security clearance check.

Candidates who have successfully completed the psychological evaluation, background investigation and security clearance check will be invited to attend four (4) weeks of in person training in Orillia.

All mandatory requirements as listed must be completed prior to assignment to a team.

What can I expect to do in this role?To manage court case files for a Detachment, providing liaison services with the court and monitoring the progress of files through the court system. To provide court security services for the detachment and court and to participate in the escort of offenders.

How do I qualify?Mandatory

  • Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
  • Ability to attain and maintain Special Constable status.
  • Ability to pass and maintain ongoing certification in Use of Force.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of Ministry policies and procedures, legislation related to court proceedings, administration and documentation, as well as relevant sections of legislation, provincial offenses, and municipal by-laws.
  • Knowledge of court processes, procedures, operations, and scheduling, as well as policies, processes, and procedures related to prisoner security, basic prisoner care, WHMIS, and workplace safety.
  • Knowledge software programs to prepare, update and maintain court-related records. Ability to schedule court dates according to officer availability and reschedule to resolve conflicting dates.
  • Knowledge of Police Services Act and Health Canada sections related to handling and preservation of evidence, including continuity and security of drugs and proper DNA approved procedures and techniques.
  • Organizational skills to coordinate and track all arrangements and documentation.
  • Ability to make decisions regarding day-to-day case management and document composition, processing and routing.
  • Oral Communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with and communicate, relay and exchange information, much of which is sensitive and confidential.
  • Ability to assess documentation and information requirements and follow up with paperwork that has not been included in crown briefs or has not been prepared, in the process of managing case files.
