In this role, you will gain:

  • Ensure inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs for overhead cranes and electric hoists at various client sites, following guidelines. Be available for 'on-call' duty as part of the Maintenance Service rotation, providing after-hours service as required.
  • Perform on-site electrical, mechanical, structural, and electronic troubleshooting to diagnose equipment malfunctions, determine necessary repairs through visual inspection, testing procedures, and appropriate test equipment. Conduct a general post-repair check before completing work, ensuring that all required safety features are operational or documenting deficiencies and attaching a deficiency tag to the crane.
  • Document findings and provide corrective recommendations during the SAFETY REVIEW to the client, including a written 'safety notification' of any observed or known safety issues if applicable. Ascertain the customer's intent to proceed with repairs and note the necessary actions to sell or complete the repairs accordingly.
  • Advise the client on repair and safety-related matters and discuss recommendations during the SITE VISIT REVIEW that will assist the client in enhancing their SAFETY and PRODUCTIVITY before leaving the site. Identify items requiring a quote.
  • Complete and furnish relevant electronic documentation using the company's digital tools required for each service, obtaining the client’s signature and acceptance.
  • Read, understand, and apply the contents of all CSA, OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, HMI, and other industry-related codes or regulations. Periodically update and refresh knowledge.
  • Complete service reports and other required and appropriate documents professionally, accurately, neatly, and legibly, submitting them promptly and in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Maintenance Service and assigned coordinator according to established practices.
  • Maintain all company equipment, vehicles, and assets to be safe and in good working order. Use tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and responsible manner. Report any defects to the supervisor for resolution.
  • Have a supply of forms, documentation, inventory, and various materials in the service vehicle. Document usage or sale to the customer, as needed.
  • Adhere to all established safety rules and procedures, including those set forth by the client.
  • Ensure the company vehicle and uniforms are clean and presentable.
  • Participate in monthly safety meetings.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

EDUCATION: A technical journeyman's training in industrial electrical/mechanical technology, or a college and/or university education in industrial electrical/mechanical technology or a related field, or equivalent vocational/technical training and experience are assets. A qualification certificate in a relevant field is required.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in electrical troubleshooting and mechanical repairs. Some electronic experience is preferred but not mandatory. Prior crane experience is a bonus.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have and maintain a good driving record, including a valid driver's license. Must be willing and able to work at heights. Must be able to work varied overtime hours, as needed by the client, be on-call as part of the Maintenance Service rotation, and be able to travel and work outside of the city on occasion.

Must be able to frequently lift up to 25 pounds. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. daily. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs., but not on a daily basis. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs., but rarely. This position involves frequent climbing, balancing, kneeling/squatting, and overhead reaching. This position occasionally requires pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling. The incumbent of this position works indoors approximately 90% of the time and outdoors about 10% of the time. This position will be frequently exposed to heat, cold, noise, and heights.
