About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Kitchen Operations Assistant. This is a seasonal position from September to April with the opportunity to work in the summer months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining the overall cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including cleaning and sanitizing designated areas, tools, equipment, and dishes.
  • Prepare food items for sandwich making, including selecting and cutting breads, cutting and wrapping sandwiches, slicing cold meats and cheese by hand or machine, and distributing meats, fillings, garnishes, and other ingredients according to set guidelines.
  • Ensure consistent quality standards in food preparation as per client requirements and safety and sanitation in the kitchen in accordance with Food Safe protocol.
  • Prepare and set up full food stations for service (hot, cold, etc.).
  • Ensure food stocks are utilized effectively.
  • Prepare and bake goods.
  • Prepare and cook breakfast.
  • Restock shelves.
  • Ensure consistent quality standards in overall food preparation as per client requirements, including consideration of special dietary constraints and allergens.
  • Ensure proper equipment operation, safety, and sanitation in the kitchen.
  • Comply with food hygiene regulations in accordance with the Food Safety Act.
  • Wash, scrub, clean, and sanitize designated kitchen and dining areas.
  • Clean kitchen and dining room floors and tables.
  • Clean refrigerators, ovens, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Wash pots, dishes, glasses, cups, etc., after each meal and as required.
  • Deep clean as required.
  • Restock and rotate desserts, sandwiches, beverages, and condiments.
  • Ensure health and safety regulations and quality standards are maintained.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 6 to 12 months of kitchen or catering experience in the food service industry, hospitality environment, or educational setting.
  • Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A minimum of FoodSafe Level I certification. SafeCheck advanced food safety certification or HACCP certification is an asset.
  • The ability to prioritize multiple demands and organize a work schedule.
  • The ability to obtain a mark of 80% or higher on the mandatory WHMIS test (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
